Adoption Requirements:
We require that ALL current household pets be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and up to date on heartworm prevention. We will require confirmation from your veterinarian. If renting, we must have landlord approval. A fence is not a requirement for ALL of our dogs. Fences are a case-by-case determination.
Adoption Process:
Our adoption process begins with an application. Once your application has been received, we will contact your landlord, veterinarian & personal reference. If all checks out, we follow up with a home visit to where the dog will be living. The next step is the sleep over; the adoption fee of $150 will be collected at that time and held until completion of the adoption contract.
A sleep over is when the dog you are intending to adopt spends 7 nights with you to make sure that everyone is the right fit for one another. We ask that you keep in touch those 7 days with updates & pictures. Once we are sure that everything will work out, you will be asked to sign the adoption contract to finalize your adoption. Please note, our adoption fee is not a sales price, but a donation to help offset the medical expenses incurred in getting our dogs healthy and ready for adoption.
Lastly, we will need to get a “Family Picture”. The family picture is a picture of your whole family with your newest addition. This picture is posted to our facebook page.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative & micro-chipped. If interested in adopting one of our dogs please fill out the application below.
Upon Adoption:
A copy of your adoption contract will be mailed.
Copies of your new family members vetting records will be mailed.
Information on how to establish ownership of your new family member from the microchip company will be mailed. Please note that with the microchip, The Pit Stop Rescue will be the primary on the microchip but you will be listed as the owner and first of contact. Having us listed on there is a safety precaution in case the company cannot get in touch with you, the owner.
We will need you to return the kennel that was given to you for the sleepover.
Because we are a nonprofit organization, if you decide to purchase new collar/leash for your new family member, please consider returning the old items back to the rescue. You are certainly more than welcome to keep the same leash/collar if you are not intending to switch them out!
